Raayan is a 2024 Indian Tamil-language neo-noir action film directed by Dhanush. It is his second directorial project and is produced by Kalanithi Maran under the banner of Sun Pictures. The film stars Dhanush in the title role and an ensemble cast that includes Sandeep Kishan, Kalidas Jayaram, Dussehra Vijayan, S. J. Surya, Selvaraghavan, Prakash Raj, Aparna Balamurali, Varalakshmi Sarathkumar, Saravanan, Dhilleepan and Divya Pillai. The film tells the story of a fast-food hotel owner in north Chennai who is accidentally caught in the middle of a war between rival gangs and struggles to protect his family when he finds himself caught in an unexpected situation. The film was officially announced in January 2023 with the working title D50[a], as it is Dhanush’s 50th film as a lead actor, with the official title announced in February 2024.

Principal photography began in July 2023 at East Coast Road, Chennai and Aditya Ram Studios, where most of the filming took place, followed by another schedule again in Karaikudi, with filming wrapping up in mid-December. The film’s music is composed by A.R.Rahman, cinematography is by Om Prakash and editing is by Prasanna GK. Raayan was initially scheduled to be released in theatres on June 13, 2024, but was later postponed. The film was released in theatres worldwide on July 26, 2024, the same day as Dhanush’s birthday. Critics praised the music, cinematography, direction, and performances of the cast, while criticizing the plot and the scene after the break. The film was a commercial success at the box office, grossing over Rs 160 crore worldwide, becoming the highest-grossing Tamil film of 2024 and the highest-grossing A-rated Tamil film of all time.
